Who are SeaSisters?

SeaSisters is a non-profit dedicated to empowering Sri Lankan women and girls through surfing and swimming.

Sounds simple, right? But here’s the thing: even though Sri Lanka is an island, most local women have never learned to swim. Cultural norms and gender expectations have kept them on the shore while the waves belong to the boys.

Until now.

SeaSisters challenges the idea that the ocean is a “man’s space.” Their swim and surf programs give women the skills—and the confidence—to claim their place in the waves. More than just sports, this movement builds community, self-confidence, and environmental awareness.

How We Met SeaSisters...

"I joined a SeaSisters workshop, unsure what to expect. At first, I felt awkward - new faces, new environment. But then came journaling, breathing exercises, and even a bit of Sri Lankan dancing. Suddenly, I was all in.

One question stuck with me: Who is your female role model, and why? It wasn’t just about admiration - it was about growth. Every girl should ask herself this. It’s how we evolve.
It’s how we become

E L S E W H O.

More than just a workshop, it was a reminder: confidence is built, strength is learned, and the right questions can change everything."
